ABOUT ART

I guess I just don’t feel like the point of art is to accurately represent reality. For the same reason, I don’t like Renaissance art. What’s the point of portraying reality exactly as it is if I can just see reality? I’m impressed by an artist’s ability to render every detail, line, proportion, and perspective as accurately as a picture, but I’m not in the slightest inspired by it. What inspires me is ideas, creativity, things imagined and dreamed up that have never been thought of and never been done, things that perturb me and stay with me years later. To me, that’s the purpose of art. To give spoken word and expression to the madness in our brains. To selfishly seek an outlet for the overflow. To create a tension and a reason for our existence on Earth.

DONT EAT THAT

WISH FOR TODAY

No thinking - that comes later. You write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is to write, not to think.

YES, PLEASE

THE CULT OF DONE MANIFESTO

There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done. There is no editing stage. Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you're doing even if you don't and do it. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done. Once you're done you can throw it away.
Laugh at perfection. It's boring and keeps you from being done. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes. Destruction is a variant of done.
DONE IS THE ENGINE OF MORE.

I don’t believe in love at first sight but I do believe in seeing someone from across the room and knowing instantly that they’re going to matter to you.
